Subject: The Comments made about La Toya Jackson on the Lorraine Kelly section, Saturday 10th January 2009
Message:
Dear Ms Kelly,
I was deeply offended, after reading your column yesterday, by a joke referring to the almost "distorted" face of singer and legend La Toya Jackson.
In your column yesterday you said, "La Toya Jackson is like one of those posh pussy cats" I believe in reference to her turned up nose, and you continued to say she had a "strange, squashed face, as though she had been hit full in the kisser with a heavy shovel".
I am not sure whether you are aware but La Toya, had been allegedly put through, unwillingly forced into a marriage, an abusive marriage, where her manager, Jack Gordon, would constantly beat and abuse her - sexually and physically. It is because of this that I find your joke unnecessary and very insensitive to the horrible living situation this woman went through during what should be the happiest years of a woman's life.
She even talks about this during her Celebrity Big Brother experience. So it surprises me as one would think that if anyone is going to make such a harsh comment about someone currently on reality television, they would actually watch the show to base an opinion on what they have heard or seen. And this is why I have come to the conclusion that you have not even been watching the show regularly, because if you have, you would have caught the long and horrific story of what her husband actually did to her, when La Toya answered Ben Adam's question "Have you ever been married?". http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/bigbrother/a140832/la-toya-married-against-her-will.html - although this link doesn't explain the whole story, of which was shown on television, it gives a small picture of the grief she went through.
May I also bring to your attention that it is claimed, if I am correct on interpreting the situation explained by brother Jermaine Jackson in the previous CBB, that Michael Jackson is suffering from a condition in which he is losing the pigmentation from his skin, and cannot go into the sunlight - I believe this is a similar condition which La Toya has, obviously on a less seriously scale, and she has a pale skin colour. I will let you off on the comment, "I did suspect she was actually Michael Jackson with a different wig on". However I do find that comment to be somewhat ignorant as they are brother and sister and it would only make sense that they had similar inherited characteristics.
Once again I would like to stress the disappointment I feel towards the comments made about La Toya, and I hope that my letter has painted a clearer picture as to why those things said about her should not have been featured on your page. I understand that it's not just you who thinks these things about La Toya, it's just that I read your column and it hit me as to how unlike you it was. I also understand that this is your column and even as human beings we are allowed to express our opinions. However you must also understand that as a human being... words can hurt.
Yours sincerely,
